Happy May! Or Should I Say Halfway to Halloween Day. Here’s What’s Ahead.

Why the Rise of "Halfway to Halloween" Festivals Matters for Brands and Marketers

It’s Halloween... but make it twice a year. Halloween isn't just a holiday anymore — it's a whole season. And now? It's becoming two seasons. The Next Evolution of Marketing: Survival of the Friendliest

You’ve probably heard the phrase “survival of the fittest” — but what if I told you that when it comes to growing your business, actually it’s cooperation over competition that wins? Evolutionary anthropologists Brian Hare and Vanessa Woods discuss the concept in their book “Survival of the Friendliest”.

In their book Hare and Woods suggest that friendliness and cooperation, rather than just physical strength or dominance, have been the key drivers of evolutionary success, particularly in human history. This theory suggests that societies and species that prioritize cooperation and empathy are more likely to thrive over those that don’t

So What’s Next For TikTok?

If you’re a brand that’s had success on TikTok, you may be on the edge of your seat as yet another deadline for the app to either sell its American interests, or go dark in the US is just days away.

As of April 1 2025, all eyes seem to be on The Blackstone Group - the world's largest alternative asset manager, who may take a small stake in TikTok’s US operations. The New York Times reported last week that the investment would most likely be miniscule compared to most of Blackstone’s investments and it’s unclear if it would be enough to fulfill the requirements of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act that was signed into law last year.

CozyMaxxing Your Brand Into Spring

One of the top trends on Google search this week is Cozymaxxing! When I first heard about this I thought it was a clever TJ Maxx hashtag - and it may have originally started that way a few years back - lively discussion boards on Reddit focused on the concept in depth more than 2 years ago. As of yesterday it was peaking as a search term across all internet platforms.

Winter is a natural time to snuggle and stay in bed, but what as we head into Spring this trend offers a fresh look at the idea.

Cozymaxxing is not to be confused with the Danish concept of hygge. Hygge emphasizes simplified, comfortable atmospheres and a sense of well-being. It involves creating an uncluttered, inviting environment, often through warm lighting, comfortable textiles, and shared moments with loved ones.

Hygge and cozymaxxing share similarities, but they are not the same.

Recycling: Not Just for Plastic and Cardboard

As a brand manager of a lifestyle company, you probably spend many hours each week carefully creating content. (Or at least you want to.) You do this for your website, perhaps for a blog and as SEO support for product descriptions, for Instagram, Linkedin, BlueSky, Pinterest and more. That’s a ton of content. It can take all day, and at many bigger companies, a team of 10 or more social media experts work on a brand’s social accounts each and every day. That’s not something that’s feasible for a smaller startup working on a shoestring budget - and this fact alone makes it hard to compete on most social media platforms.
