Here’s What’s Happening in March (that Lifestyle Brands Should Know About).

Early Easter, Spring Equinox, and St. Patrick’s Day are just the start of the busy month ahead.

The colors green, cherry blossom pink, and daffodil yellow play prominently this month, as do jeweled Easter decorations, fragrances and candles.

March spells the end of Winter and there’s a palpable sense of relief from frost weary souls throughout North America:

  • Create a sense of regeneration through social and blog posts and include your products that fit this vibe.  For media outreach, editors are looking for products and ideas that evoke a sense of renewal.

  • Spring break is happening - people are emerging from their Winter cocooning and are ready to start exploring again. Packing, luggage, picnicking, transitional wardrobes (layers), lighter and brighter colors, floral patterns, reasons to be optimistic, are all great subjects for posts.
Spring forward on March 10 as Daylight savings begins!

  • Daffodil festivals are getting started around the country (mainly in the South in March - and heading up North they happen in April). Photos of daffodils in every pot and surface along with shots of fresh green hillsides on social media are numerous. One of the most remarkable is on Nantucket in April, but towns all over the US have them, and they are colorful and fun.

  • The Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C. and cherry blossoms in general create so much joy after the bleakness of Winter that they cannot be ignored.

  • And of course, Easter!

These days are fun for lifestyle brands to post about:

What to pitch to media this month:

  • Earth Day (April 22) - this is an important day that focuses on dealing with the problem of plastics in particular this year. Take part in an event or host one by registering on Earthday.org

  • Total Solar Eclipse strategies (April 8) where to view, what effect the eclipse might have on pets, moods, luck, money.

  • Mother’s Day - (Sunday May 12) it’s projected we’ll spend more than $35.7 billion on gifts this year. Gift guides are a big part of fueling sales so it’s important to pitch early.

  • Spring Fashion - while Spring officially arrives on March 19, we’ll be talking about “Spring Fashion” ie: floral prints, dresses, sandals, hats, light colors) until May. Pre-Summer melds in with Spring.

  • Spring Beauty - with the change of seasons comes a change in serums and color palettes. Humidifiers go into the closet while sunscreen is emphasized in beauty routines.

  • Kentucky Derby - (May 5) the First Saturday in May is about far more than horses. Minty drinks, delightful food, and wild hats are really something we can all enjoy on this day.

  • Cinco de Mayo - (May 5) in much the same way as the Kentucky, Cinco de Mayo can be shared by everyone in the form of outfits, food, recipes, and cheer!

  • World Bee Day (May 20) if you offer products with bee derived ingredients such as lip balms, candles, skin care, honey, this is a good opportunity to pitch your products.

  • Memorial Day (May 27) this is the Black Friday of Summer, with sales and promotions for everything being promoted in every which way. Gear up for the day by pitching your products early - and optimize the appeal of your brand by bolstering social media follows and engagement, and encouraging reviews on Amazon.
